This gallery is a sampling of some of the photos I've taken over the last 3 months. It is a thankyou for all the love and support I get from so many wonderful people here and around the world.
HIGHLIGHTS FROM WINTER 2010 Oh Santa Barbara! So many shows, so little time. From The Peking Acrobats to Sir George Martin to The Trojan Women, we get that old spice of life, variety, in spades. ___THEATER – Ensemble Theatre Co's "Souvenir" was a hilarious exploration of self-delusional bad singing based on a true story. _ UCSB Theater's "Kindom City" and "The Trojan Women" were superb and so was SBT's "Our Town."_ DIJO Production's timely revival of "Inherit the Wind" was a delight to video.___DANCE – Grupo De Rua's high energy Brazillian "street" dance; Wheeldon/Morphoses @ the Granada–superb!. _ William Soleau's "Love, Love, Love" set to choral arrangements of Beatles music featured, among other things, projected animations by yours truly.___"bahok" by Akram Khan Company/National Ballet of China was an eerie meditation on isolation vs. belonging and national identity. ___Check out the first installments of DANCEworks 2010 here for photos & videos. ________ ___MUSIC – Keb Mo, Brad Mehldau, Jerry Douglas, Edgar Meyer, Sam Bush, The Bob Florence Tribute Band, Tierney Sutton and a red-hot Dee Dee Bridgewater show, all proved beyond a doubt the Lobero Theatre's commitment to present great music. __UCSB Arts & Lectures: Suzanne Vega's sweet & tart set, a lively show by the Chieftains with Ry Cooder, and an in-the-pocket set by the SF Jazz Collective! __ A LOUD (even w/earplugs) Hendrix Tribute featuring some fine fretboard frenzy by a host of hot guitar slingers.__Sings Like Hell maintained it's eclectic schtick with some fine pickin', singin' and off-beat humor courtesy of Matt the Electrician, Van Dyke Parks, Steve Young, Ray Wylie Hubbard and WPA. __Speaking of eclecticism, local legends Headless Household are masters of running the gamut from avant-jazz to polka, with former bandmate from my early days, Tom Lackner on a panopoly of percussive paraphernalia! ___Dazzling clarinet by José Franch-Ballester (Camerata Pacifica); Tafelmusik's "Gallileo Project," the liveliest Baroque music I've ever heard; Anne Sophie Von Otter & Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France gave a sublime all Ravel program; 3 fine shows by the SB Symphony.___ Last but not least: Santa Barbara Drum Day with Dancing Drum leading over 300 drummers on a beautiful day in the park for a riot of rhythm!
